Lapan martyr's grave: a historical site that has significance for the people around Bireuen Regency and road users along the Banda Aceh-Medan route. It's not just the name that makes this site famous, but its location, which is right on the edge of a provincial road. Every road user who passes the Banda Aceh-Medan route will come across the Tomb of Syahid Lapan at Simpang Tamboe, Cot Batee Geulungku, Simpang Mamplam District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh, Indonesia. According to historical literature, the Tomb of Syahid Lapan (meaning eight martyrs) is the final resting place of eight brave Acehnese heroes who died in battle against the Dutch Marsose army in early 1902.

But that's not all. What is unique about this cemetery is that it is located close to the mosque, so it attracts many visitors who stop by to perform the obligatory prayers. Interestingly, many visitors, both motorbike, car and public or private vehicle drivers, take the time to give alms in front of the grave. This practice of putting alms into the donation box does not only occur during the day, it often occurs at night. Almost everyone who passes through this area always stops to give alms. Even though in front of him there were several beggars who had no place to live. The cemetery does not prevent visitors from paying their respects to the fallen heroes who rest here.

Neatly written notes on the tomb wall reveal the names of eight fallen fighters: Teungku Commander Prang Rayeuk Jurong Binje, Teungku Muda Lem Mamplam, Teungku Nyak Balee Ishak Blang Mane, Teungku Meureudu Tambue, Teungku Balee Tambue, Apa Sheikh Lancok Mamplam, Muhammad Sabi Blang Mane, and Nyak Ben Matang Salem Blang Teumulek.

This heroic event occurred in early 1902, where these eight fighters bravely blocked a patrol of 24 Dutch Marsose soldiers who were fully armed and armed only with swords. Even though they faced many obstacles, the persistence of these fighters ultimately led to the defeat and death of the Dutch army. However, when he was about to collect the weapons of the fallen soldiers, suddenly a group of Marsose soldiers appeared and launched an indiscriminate attack which resulted in the eight soldiers dying on the spot. Finally, the bodies of eight fallen fighters were buried in one grave, considering that their body parts were scattered.

The Lapan Martyrs' Tomb has great historical significance for the people of Bireuen Regency and is a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of these eight fighters. It stands as a symbol of resistance to colonial oppression and proof of the never-give-up spirit of the Acehnese people.
