Picks up my phone... Oh! It's Mary

Me: Hello Mary, how are you doing?
Mary: I'm fine, just having a painful cramp episode
Me: Haven't you taken drugs?
Mary: No oh! I don't take drugs for cramps, it's not good.....
Me: what do you mean, who said it's not good?
Mary: I know, my friends told me it changes the reproductive system of the women and might cause you infertility, cancer and is a pointer that you're not strong because it's not natural for you to take pills...
Me: dumbfounded... Hmmm... Shakes my head

That's it!
Many of our ladies think exactly the way Mary do... I really don't know where this thought it all came from
Who exactly said it's not good to take pills for pains?
When did taking painkillers become a bad thing?
Who says it's natural for you to undergo pain?

Please, Taking pain killers doesn't cause any of the above ladies fear for please.

The only precaution advised medically to take is for you to avoid Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs when you are already suffering from peptic or duodenal ulcer disease as they worsens this condition, hence, you'll have to find an alternative painkiller but never to leave yourself undergo pain.

It's true I can't really say exactly how severe the pains can be because I don't witness it but from what I've heard, some could be very severe that the person forfeits her activities for the day lying in bed changing from one position to another whereas others could be mild.

For mild episodes, you may or may not take pills but then, for those severe ones, why exactly shouldn't you take pills?

I understand you might be scared of altering anything that could cause you harm but then , there are doctors everywhere that you could easily approach to get their medical advice and set your facts straight.... Please don't die of pain.

Causes

Some of the menstrual cramps are absolutely normal without any underlying factors but then, some of them could be pathological and that's why it's necessary to see a doctor and explain to him or her the symptoms you're having, most likely you'll get a pelvic examination...

The causes includes;

  • Endometriosis

This is a situation whereby the parts/contents/tissues of the endometrium is found in any other place outside that endometrium.

  • Adenomyosis

Occurrence of endometrial tissues within the myometrium, here, the tissues are still within the uterus but it's kind of misplaced or mispositioned.

  • Fibroids in the uterus could also cause menstrual cramps

  • Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases

Menstrual cramps could also be as a result of Infections

Treatments

The first treatment remains taking painkillers! Take painkillers please even if it's just Acetaminophen (Paracetamol).

Lifestyle modifications
To a very great extent, this would help a lot especially close to when you're expecting your menstrual flow...
Avoiding caffeine products and sugary products...
Avoiding tobacco and alcohol intake
Limiting the stress you subject yourself to..
Exercise is a great deal also
Visiting the doctor when it gets out of hand
