World Biggest Gola Ganda / Ice Gola at Uncle Gola Corner, Dhoraji

Today, I am going to share my wonderful experience of Gola Ganda with you guys. Wait a minute, what is this Gola Ganda as many of you heard this name for the first time. This is nothing new for sub-continent people but it could be a funny name for others. Gola Ganda is a famous and very popular frozen dessert in Pakistan. It is a wonderful treat in hot weather and gives a refreshing feeling and is loved by people of all ages.

I don’t know who the inventor of this dish is, but whoever did it for the first time was suffering from hot weather. It is not that hard to prepare Gola Ganda, crushing the ice cubes or blending ice into a snow-like texture, giving it a ball shape, and then adding flavored syrups on it. There is no specific syrup to be used; it all depends on your choice of flavor. This is a simple Gola Ganda. However, nowadays, people are creating different shapes and adding colorful syrups to make it more attractive, and then add-ons like chocolate, waffles, and different other sweets are used as toppings. People are getting more creative with it and giving it all new looks.

I still remember that in my childhood, it was usually served as ice cream on a stick, but now the trend is a Matka (large earthen pot) with a whole lot of things on top of it. This has become an art, and people are going crazy for it. I have seen many clips of such creativity, most of them from India. These people work hard to get something new out of this Gola Ganda.

We have a famous street in Karachi for such types of food and dessert, Dhoraji, popular for its Gola Ganda and spicy snacks. Last year in September, when my eldest brother was in Pakistan and was looking for something new for his Instagram clip, we decided to experience Gola Ganda at Dhoraji. We had a nice walk on that street and were looking for a suitable place to have Gola Ganda. Uncle Gola Corner caught our attention due to its banner on which it was written “World's Biggest Gola”. We asked them to serve us their best shot. It was a Special Matka Gola.

The person who was sitting in the wheel cart was a bit rude in the beginning. He was the owner of this shop and had expertise in making different Gola Gandas. Actually, he did not like people with cell phones making videos as he said people share wrong information and criticize different things. His point is valid, but people have the right to share their experiences and reviews. In this way, you cannot get fame or spread your name; social marketing is very important nowadays. My eldest brother gave some helpful advice and went inside the wheel to film the making of this special Gola Ganda. Looking at my brother’s positive attitude, the owner welcomed him and allowed him to make a video.

He used a lot of syrups and many different sweets in the making of this Gola Ganda. Honestly, I am not very fond of this dessert. We just wanted to experience the world's biggest Gola hehehhe. It is not true because I have seen bigger Golas in the clips. Finally, we got the colorful Gola Ganda served in a Matka. It was nice but expensive. $3.5 for this is not justified in my opinion. People do enjoy having these Gola Gandas on this street. We had a good time together and enjoyed our Gola Ganda.
