Gaspereau Fishing Season

It's fishing season here, and we need to get fishing licenses for fishing. My husband just got his new license the other day at a hardware store. I don't go fishing much, but I love to cook freshly caught fish. Of course, it's not easy to prepare fish for cooking, but I enjoy the process. I really appreciate these moments. There is a strict fishing season. According to the "Anglers' Handbook"

It sounds like a very important vision and mission for protecting wildlife. Additionally, the Mi'kmaq of Nova Scotia harvesters have Aboriginal and treaty rights to hunt and fish and do not require provincial hunting and fishing licenses or follow provincial seasons. This is also a very important issue for Indigenous people. In my hometown, the Indigenous people lost their right to fish for salmon using their traditional style, which is very unfair. They are still asking to get back their traditional natural fishing style rights.

 
Seasons, bag limits, and size limits are quite strict in the booklet. My husband's target is especially the Gaspereau fish, also recognized as Alewife. Locally, people refer to it as gaspereau, kiack, or kyack. As you can see, eel fish is also on this list. I've heard that Indigenous Mi'kmaq used to catch and eat eels throughout their history. In Japan, people eat eels as Unagi with sweet and salty sauce, so I wonder what kind of style the Mi'kmaq people had when they cooked eels.

There is a poster about fish types on a tree next to the river. I love to eat salmon, but it's protected in this river. I love to eat salmon, all of its parts, including its skin. I love sashimi (raw) style, cooked style, or even half-frozen (ruibe) style, or dried salmon called 'toba'.

ガスペロー釣りの時期です

私の住む地域では魚釣りの季節が到来しました。先日、主人がホームセンターで今年の魚釣りの許可証を取得しました。私はあまり魚釣りには行きませんが、とれたての魚を調理するのは好きです。もちろん、下処理は大変ですが楽しい過程でもあります。感謝しながら調理します。割と厳しく規制された内容が表記されている「魚釣り師用のハンドブック」によると、

野生動物を保護するためにはとても重要なビジョンとミッションだと思いました。さらに、ノバスコシア州での狩猟や漁において先住民であるミグマ族の方たちには条約権があるため、州規定の狩猟、漁の資格保持や期間厳守のルールに従う必要性はありません。これも先住民の方たちにとっては大変重要なことだと思います。私の故郷では大変不公平なことに、先住民の方たちの伝統的な鮭の漁の方法を剥奪されたままです。いまだにかつての伝統的な方法での漁の権利を取り戻すために訴え続けている状況です。

漁の期間、量の限度、サイズの限度など細かなルールがハンドブックに記載されています。私の主人は主にガスペロー（エールワイフ）というニシン科の魚を釣ることを目標にしています。この地域ではエールワイフのことをガスペローと呼びます。または、kiack やkyack とも呼ぶらしいです。リストにあるように、うなぎもとれます。先住民のミグマ族の方たちはかつてうなぎを主食として食べていたと聞きました。日本では美味しいタレをかけて食べる鰻が人気ですね。ミグマ族の方たちがうなぎをどのように調理して食べていたのかとても興味があります。

川の隣の木に魚の種類が書かれたポスターが貼り付けてあります。私は鮭が大好きなのですが、この川では鮭はとることができません。鮭は皮ごとほぼ全ての部分を食べ、刺身、焼き魚、半分凍ったルイベや乾燥させたトバなど、いろいろなスタイルの鮭（シャケ）を食べるのが好きです。
