#BeerSaturday - 6000th Unique in Tasmania Australia

A Couple of weeks ago I told you about my 10000th check-in on Untappd and in that post I alluded to the fact that I was approaching 6000 unique beers checked-in and that I was expecting to hit that mini milestone (not actually an official Untappd milestone, it goes 5,000 and then 10,000 which a milestones that are likely 8-9 years apart) when in Tasmania.

For those playing at home Tasmania is the island off the bottom of the mainland of Australia, and a lovely place. I somehow hadn't been there for 8 years but we popped across Bass Strait which seperates Melbourne from Tassie and landed in Hobart for a quick 4 day getaway.

Now Hobart is a place which has a pretty impressive gourmet food, wine and more more importantly for me Whiskey and an Craft beer scene, so I spent a bit of time sampling what was on offer.

But in particular I shall tell you about Fox Friday which was the brewery/bar which I had my 6000th Unique untappd beer (it's taken a bit over 13 years to do that) in. I say Bar because it's main brewery in some 15km away and this is a brewery bar in Hobart CBD (they also have bars in Melbourne and Perth)

Now I swear this is a coincidence but the bar was literally across the road from the awesome airbnb we had for a couple of the nights.

which was handy because it meant we could pop in a what would otherwise be strange times. This is how we found ourselves here on a Sunday afternoon, around 2pm when we had a flight to catch at about 6pm, thoughts, a few quick beers, clock up the 6000th and bit of a final explore of Hobart to make sure I wasn't over the legal limit, and then the 20 min drive out to the airport.

We had been to the bar earlier in the weekend and had most of their guest Tap beers - Some amazing Range Brewery collaborations with Breweries called with Fox Friday, Future Brewing, Found and Finback. As the F's leading to beers called F That, F Sake, F This and F Yeah which makes for some fun ordering, I swear to God the bartender announced the beers to me a F This and F U which was either a genuine mistake or a not so hidden message for me.

Anyway back to the 6000th. I had be eyeing up two beers - The Hightower and the Tackleberry, which will appeal to people of a certian vintage as two excellent Police Academy references. So it was a quick order for me.

Tackleberry is the one on the left, the one that looks like an orange juice, I assure you 6000 beers ago if someone had offered this up as a beer I would have looked at them strangely, but this is the age we are in. And this is a corker of a beer perfectly hazy, very drinkable contains everyone’s favourite hop Citra. I kind of knew it would be - you see Fox Friday do amazing IPAs. That is the problem with milestone beers, but definition you have not had it before so you don't know if it's going to be a disappointment so you have to choose on brewery reputation (or link it to a event like a holiday or something)

Which brings us to 6001 - which is the beer on the right - Hightower - a West Coast IPA. It was a pretty good one too, I must admit now though my palate is more used to Hazy IPAs and juice bombs so this slightly harsher IPA style, although still good it not a amazing as it used to be.

And of course life goes on in the craft beer world so soon enough it was onto beer 6002 and 6003

 

Which were Pool Party by Fox Friday, a pretty standard American IPA. and (And I'm not really going to need to say on the right) the One Eyed Purple People Eater Double oated Smoothie Sour by Dangerous Ales (From Tasmania) and Sailor's Grave (From Victoria)
