company sponsored massive sushi party

Unfortunately for me, I am not a big fan of sushi in a general sense but the other people involved in this organization seem to dig it so it was a good time regardless even though I left hungry.

I don't even know the name of most of this stuff. I tried a bit of each but I guess I am just a man of simplistic taste because I don't really understand the allure (and high cost) of this sort of thing.

The occasion was that we had just finished a rather large project ahead of schedule so the bosses of the group thought it would be a good idea to reward everyone involved. It was nice of them to even invite me since I work remotely and am not really part of the team. I am just a contract worker and had very little to do with the overall project and honestly, outside of my little part of the process, I don't really even know what the project was for :)

If I had to choose a favorite, or a better way of describing it would be the food that I disliked the least, it would be the salmon sashimi, which as I am sure most of you know is merely raw salmon. The tuna was probably what i disliked the 2nd least.

The bosses didn't seem to have any upper limit on how much they were willing to provide and they just kept ordering and ordering until everyone had their fill. For me, "my fill" was a few pieces. To me the allure lies entirely in the wasabi and soy sauce mix, which is good but what you put inside of it doesn't really seem to matter since that flavor is so overpowering.

On one of my mixes of the wasabi and soy I put way more wasabi in there than I should have out of inexperience and I had what I can only describe as the opposite of "brain freeze." I was basically locked in place and struggling to breathe (I'm exaggerating of course) but when it was over I was like "wow, I'm not using that again." One of the more experienced sushi diners said that they do that to themselves on purpose and like the experience. Not me!

I suppose if anything can be taken away from this I can say that I believe that the company is a good one and even though I was meeting most of the staff for the first time they were very welcoming of me. I can see that this is a well-run company because all of the staff members seemed to genuinely like one another and the management has their respect and admiration. This is a good thing to do for your staff I think. I've worked at places that treated every one of their employees like slaves and experienced high turnover rates because of it. If you treat your staff well they stick around and try to do a good job. More companies should operate this way.

It was a good time but after sampling all of what was offered I can say that I am not a sushi / sashimi convert and if I was spending my own money I would not choose to eat it at all. 'Twas a good time though!
