From Branches to Art 💚 Creating an Ecological Poster

Greetings my dear Hive friends, first time posting in this special community. Inspiration often comes at the most unexpected moments, as in my case, while I was preparing for a special assessment in my holistic massage therapy diploma. While I don't consider myself a particularly skilled crafts person, I like to challenge my creativity from time to time to find simple and inexpensive solutions. This is how my latest project was born: a poster to advertise "Spa Therapies".

A menudo, la inspiración llega en los momentos más inesperados, como en mi caso, mientras me preparaba para una evaluación especial en mi diplomado de masoterapia holística. Si bien no me considero una persona especialmente hábil en manualidades, de vez en cuando me gusta desafiar mi creatividad para encontrar soluciones simples y económicas. Así fue como nació mi último proyecto: un cartel para anunciar "Terapias de Spa".

With the goal of making something quick and easy, I set out to look for materials I had at home. Among my stored treasures I found several dry branches that resembled small bamboos. With a little imagination and the right elements, my poster began to take shape.

Con el objetivo de hacer algo rápido y sencillo, me dispuse a buscar materiales que tuviera en casa. Entre mis tesoros guardados encontré varias ramas secas que se asemejaban a pequeños bambúes. Con un poco de imaginación y los elementos adecuados, comenzó a tomar forma mi cartel.

The first step was to prepare the background. I opted for cardboard as a base and painted it a soft green tone, followed by touches of white to add contrast. Then, using a hot glue gun, I began attaching the branches forming the phrase "Spa Therapies" around the edge of the sign. This technique not only gave an organic feel to the piece, but also evoked a minimalist Asian aesthetic, just what I was looking for. To finish it, I wanted to smooth out the jagged edges and add texture. This is where creativity came into play. I mixed white glue, recycled paper, and beach sand, creating a paste that I carefully applied along the edges of the sign. This technique not only hid imperfections, but also added an interesting tactile element.

El primer paso fue preparar el fondo. Opté por un cartón como base y lo pinté con un tono verde suave, seguido de toques de blanco para añadir contraste. Luego, utilizando una pistola de silicona caliente, empecé a fijar las ramas formando la frase "Terapias de Spa" alrededor del borde del cartel. Esta técnica no solo le dio un toque orgánico a la pieza, sino que también evocó una estética asiática minimalista, justo lo que buscaba. Para su acabado, quería suavizar los bordes irregulares y añadir textura. Aquí es donde la creatividad entró en juego. Mezclé pegamento blanco, papel reciclado y arena de playa, creando una pasta que apliqué cuidadosamente a lo largo de los bordes del cartel. Esta técnica no solo ocultó las imperfecciones, sino que también agregó un elemento táctil interesante.

The final result was a simple, but elegant poster, made entirely with recycled materials and a lot of creativity. In addition to serving its functional purpose, this project reminded me of the beauty that can be found in the everyday and the satisfaction of creating something unique with our own hands.

El resultado final fue un cartel simple, pero elegante, hecho completamente con materiales reciclados y mucha creatividad. Además de cumplir su propósito funcional, este proyecto me recordó la belleza que se puede encontrar en lo cotidiano y la satisfacción de crear algo único con nuestras propias manos.
