150 bentos (便當）before 10 am.

Had a productive morning. My sister-in-law was catering for an event and had to prepare 150 bentos (便當）. So we got up early and got to work.
 

First, we prepared 10 vegetarian bentos. Usually in Taiwan vegetarians choose the life style for religion. So tofu comes in many different textures and flavors (some stimulating meat). So there are three different kinds of tofu plus rice and vegetable.
 

Now when it comes to religious vegetarians it’s important to keep food absolutely separated from meat or anything that touched meat. So we prepare a small amount for the ten.

Now for the regular bentos.
 

Besides white rice, i bet you know what it looks like, here is a kind of tofu. It has a black outer skin and a tan, chewy texture.
 

This is bitter melon and pork.
 

Next, eggplant. Taiwan’s eggplants are long and narrow. Kids hate them here, but adults love them. Probably a texture thing.
 

Last of the side dishes is fried cabbage with carrots. Taiwan cabbage is a must try. It’s so crispy even after cooking.
 

The first meat is salty fried fish. This is a typical Hakka (one of the ethnic groups of Chinese) food.

These are breaded and fried pork chops. Powdered with white pepper.

My sister-in-law always packs the bentos so full that when you take off the lid, it almost pops off.
Such a delicious meal.

Unfortunately, I’m on the 5th day of my fast. So i can enjoy them next time.
